Greg Pierce

Dr. Greg Pierce is an accomplished archaeologist with over a decade of experience working with cultural resources across the United States. From 2014 to 2019, Dr. Pierce served as the Wyoming State Archaeologist and worked with students as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Wyoming Department of Anthropology. From 2019 to 2022, he served as the Executive Director of the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in Maryland.

Fort Sarpy

In 1837, Pierre Sarpy built a seasonal outpost near Fort William on the North Platte to feed the fur trade’s booming robe market. Abandoned within a year, its exact location was never recorded, and Fort Sarpy remains one of Wyoming’s most obscure trading posts.
