sarpy's point

In 1862, veteran Fort Laramie trader James Bordeaux built a short-lived trading post at Rawhide Buttes. Almost nothing is known about the post itself, but the buttes remained a landmark for travelers long after Bordeaux left, later becoming a station on the stage road to the Black Hills gold rush.

James Bordeaux built an independent trading post at Sarpy’s Point on the North Platte after the 1849 sale of Fort John. For two decades it served Lakota bands and Oregon Trail emigrants and stood near the outbreak of the 1854 Grattan Fight.
