Canyon Springs Stage Station marker

A historic marker on state Highway 85 at Four Corners, Wyo., denotes the location of the last gold robbery of the Cheyenne-Deadwood stagecoach on Sept. 29, 1878. A passenger was killed and the driver badly wounded; the shotgun messenger killed one of the outlaws and fatally wounded another. Still the outlaws managed to get away with between $20,000 and $140,000, according to varying reports.
