Several interstate natural gas pipelines converge at Opal in Lincoln County, creating a major trading hub. A plant operated by Williams Partners LP of Tulsa, Okla., processes natural gas from western Wyoming wells in the Greater Green River Basin, Big Piney, Jonah/Pinedale and Moxa/Green River fields. It also produces natural gas liquids from natural gas.
Opal is located about 15 miles east of Kemmerer. An explosion at the Williams plant in April 2014 left no one injured, but the town was evacuated for a time. For more on the plant, see http://co.williams.com/operations/west-operations/gathering-and-processing/opal-gas-processing-plant/.
