- May 1868: During the negotiations for the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty Alexander Gardner produced a large number of stereo images and larger glass plate images portraying the grounds of Fort Laramie, Native American encampments, frontiersmen, actual treaty negotiations, and the distribution of annuity goods to the tribes.
- 1868-1869: Andrew J. Russel produced photographs of the region on behalf of the Union Pacific Railroad.
