- Winter of 1857-1858: Topographer David Auguste Burr spent the winter to the region of Fort Bridger where he took a few photographers.
- Samuel C. Mills and Edward Jagiello took photographs during the Simpson Expedition producing some of the earliest known images along the emigrant trails, including the first known photograph of Fort Laramie.
